Description
This incredible historic landmark has served in several capacities over the years, but it has served as a high school in Tacoma, WA since 1904 It is reminiscent of a castle, which overlooks Thea Foss Waterway, Tacoma, WA. It was constructed for the Northern Pacific Railroad Co. and Tacoma Land Co. Construction began in 1891 with the intent of building a luxury hotel resembling a French chateau. The Panic of 1893 brought construction to a halt and the unfinished building became a storage facility. In 1898 the building was gutted by a fire, and in 1904 Tacoma School District purchased it to turn it into a high school, which it has remained since that time.
