Description
This is a Climax locomotive steam engine made for the logging industry, Silver Creek Logging Co. It is located in the small mountain community of Elbe, WA near Mt. Rainier. It has a shaft drive, 2 V-shaped cylinders. Its great claim to fame was that it could make real sharp corners, which made it attractive for the logging industry, since other locomotives could not do that.
It operated somewhere around the 1920's-40's. It's coal fired and has a tremendous spark arrester (that large cone shaped object on top front), which would be absolutely necessary in a hard pull, because locomotives draft air through the boiler so hard that embers fly out and are a fire hazard.
